Making Halloween costumes has been a tradition in our family since our oldest was 2 years old. It took me a bit to get motivated and inspired in the realization that “Ooooh I can make that, hold on … I can create my sons ENTIRE Halloween costume” lol. Now we are 7 years into costume creation, documenting and memory making. I don’t ever DIY the whole thing but there is always a large DIY element to each costume. It’s also really fun to hunt and coordinate all the pieces together until VOILA! Our visions come to life.
Every year brings a fresh new opportunity for imagination and has been so much fun and special in its own way. As Halloween 2020 is upon us, I was going through photos when I noticed that I never got to share this gem of a costume set from 2017 on here. I was on a time crunch getting them ready for their October 31st debut and thought: “I’ll preview them on Instagram and do a full write up later”. That didn’t end up rolling out as I thought—oh life, how it just zooms on by!
So here is a little scuba inspo from our home to yours as you start to plan what this quarantine Halloween will look like for you. All of these items can either be found on Amazon and shipped on Prime or homemade, making it a super quarantine friendly costume too!
I have not put together a DIY for the oxygen tanks (yet) but it definitely is on the horizon. A tip: I went to my local hardware store and re-imagined all these pieces to form our scuba divers oxygen tanks. Many victory dances happened as they successfully came together!
Our boys LOVE watching scuba videos and one of the main reasons they love them so is because a shark or ten usually make an appearance. Of course we had to incorporate our dog MR. as our shark.
Just so you know, although it’s been 3 years since this costume was created … our boys STILL wear those scuba suits for costume play AND for swimming, they still wear those flippers and I kid you not: they just asked me yesterday to take out the oxygen tanks to play with. They are obsessed with everything scuba and it’s been so worth making costumes like these that are kept and usable for day to day play for YEARS to come. Making memories for years, literally. Dive on in boys!
Let’s photograph all of our deep sea adventures!
MR. is either really happy or really really upset we attached a shark fin to his back. Either way, he rocked it! Thank you MR. we love you tons. 🦈
Thank you for hanging with us and scrolling through our scuba images. Remember to tag #allkidsdiy if you re-create these or comment on here! We would love to see what you and your kiddos came up with. 🐠
